For more than four decades, Brooklyn-born Bishop Hezekiah Walker has used music and ministry to inspire generations. Now he is building something people can live in.
HezHouse Apartments, a 10-story, 236-unit affordable housing complex in East New York, Brooklyn, celebrates its grand opening this month after six years in the making. The ribbon cutting is set for October 21, making Walker the first Gospel artist to create housing in New York.
HezHouse is the first major project of the Hezekiah Walker Community Development Corporation, which he founded in 2013 to create resources that empower the East New York community where he grew up. It is a direct extension of his commitment to the neighborhood that birthed both his ministry and his artistry.
“For decades, God has allowed me to make music that has touched lives, and now He has given me the opportunity to build something tangible for my community,” says Walker. “The opening of HezHouse Apartments, the new song, and the new partnership with Roc Nation are all part of the same journey for me: using every gift and every opportunity to inspire, uplift and create a legacy that will outlive me.”
The opening comes alongside a new chapter in his music. Walker signed with Roc Nation Distribution in November 2025, and his single “Favor” with the Love Fellowship Choir, their first stand-alone single in 10 years, is available now and impacting radio. Stanley Brown of Timeless Music Group/TITLE9, who brokered the deal, says Walker “was one of the first artists I called.”
Walker formed the Love Fellowship Choir in 1985. Their catalog spans 15 albums and two GRAMMY Awards, and “Every Praise” was named Billboard’s Gospel Song of the Decade in 2019. With HezHouse, his legacy now includes 236 homes in Brooklyn.
