During Gospel Music Heritage Month, Kentrell Ragin announced his new live album, The Sound, arriving Friday, October 9. Ragin is a Billboard-charting producer, gospel artist and worship leader at Change Church in New Jersey under Pastor Dharius Daniels.
The Sound blends gospel and praise and worship with influences of R&B, hip-hop, pop and rock. For Ragin, that freedom is not about changing the message. It is about expanding the musical language used to share it.
The album also opens up about grief, loss and depression, and about continuing to pour into others as a worship leader through it all. “I want young men, creatives and anybody who feels disconnected to know that what you’ve been through doesn’t disqualify you,” Ragin says.
His creative process stands out too. Rather than leaning on other records for inspiration, he often builds music from unusual sounds and unexpected noises, and has even written songs backward. The Sound features Deon Kipping, Kymberli Joye and Courtney “CoCo” Crosson. Its single “Testify”, a Prince-influenced tribute to his late grandmother, is out now.
To celebrate, One Stop Music Pro presents The Sound Live Experience, the official album release concert, on Friday, October 9 at Guiding Star Church, 400 Main St., East Orange, NJ. Doors open at 6:30 PM ET and the show starts at 7:30 PM ET.
