Casually Conversing with Casey J.

Upon her very entrance into our meeting space was a feeling of pure authenticity and grace. She was wholly HER, which I loved. Since she was her true, authentic self, the atmosphere for the interview was natural and relaxed. How she was even dressed matched who she is on the inside, comfortable. The interview with Casey J. was one for the books. We literally gathered on the couch together to just talk about the goodness of God. Though she spoke about what she’s doing and has done as an artist, she always ended up giving all glory and praise to God for it all. It was never about her. Here again, is another perfect example of her spirit. Casey considers herself a song carrier, meaning that she just carries the songs until it’s time to birth them. Once they are birthed, where they go from there is up to God. He sends them where he wants them to go. This is how she perceives the process of being a songwriter & artist in the gospel industry. She even mentions that she doesn’t speak until God tells her to speak. She doesn’t move until HE tells her to move. Therefore, she doesn’t abide by the standards of the industry. As she states, “industry standards are not my standards.” She truly lives by the standards of God and wants nothing more than for his people to be safe, loved and healed.

When listening to her music, you instantly feel the true worshipper come out in every song. She understands what it means to give God true, PURE, worship. You may know the song “I’m Yours” from her last album, which she wrote, and how well it’s been received since its release. One of her new singles, “If God”, is another hit from her new album titled The Gathering. It’s a song that reminds us that God is with us no matter what, deriving from Romans 8:31. This scripture states “what shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Casey always has meanings or teachings when it comes to her records, tying them to scripture. Her album title comes from Acts 4:31 where it states “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” This is the objective Casey was going for. When people hear or sing her music, she wants them to walk away boldly speaking the word of God. This is why we love Casey J.
