Remembering Harry Belafonte: A Life of Music, Activism, and Legacy

Harry Belafonte, the legendary singer, actor, and civil rights activist, has died(May 25, 2023). Born on March 1, 1927, in Harlem, New York, he rose to fame with his 1956 album “Calypso” and its iconic “Banana Boat Song (Day-O).” As a trailblazer in film and television, he broke racial barriers and opened doors for future generations of black performers.

A close friend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Belafonte played a vital role in the Civil Rights Movement and later founded the “We Are the World” initiative to combat famine in Africa. His legacy as an entertainer and activist will continue to inspire generations. May his memory live on, and we celebrate how he enriched our lives.
