Kirk Franklin has officially opened a new era. His new single “This Time” featuring GloRilla is out now on Uptown Records, and it comes with big news: a brand-new album, I Am What I Am, arriving October 30.
The record reunites Kirk and GloRilla, who first worked together on “Rain Down On Me” alongside Maverick City Music, Kierra Sheard and Chandler Moore. “This Time” is built on the horns of Mandrill’s “Children Of The Sun,” the same groove behind the late Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know.” Handclaps keep the tempo, the chorus is made to be shouted back, and GloRilla brings upbeat bars that show another side of her artistry.
The album was first introduced with “Thank You For Everything” featuring gospel legend Karen Clark Sheard of The Clark Sisters, now the fastest-growing record at Gospel radio. Kirk performed it for its live television debut at the 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards.
I Am What I Am is Kirk’s fourteenth full-length solo album, a 14-track double album with seven studio recordings and seven live ones. It is his first release under his new partnership with Uptown Records, alongside his own Fo Yo Soul Entertainment and TRIBL Music Group.
