The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has once again set the stage for a spectacular celebration of Gospel music by announcing its second annual GospelFest. Scheduled for April 27, 2024, at the prestigious Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, this event is not just a concert but a grand affair that promises to enliven the soul and elevate the spirits of its audience.

Under the skilled baton of Dr. Henry Panion III, the BSO will join forces with Gospel music virtuoso Donald Lawrence in a performance that’s set to resonate with fans both old and new. This unique collaboration will also feature the Howard Gospel Choir and the Morgan State University Choir, enhancing the evening with a blend of youthful vigor and seasoned artistry. This is a rare opportunity for our audience to witness such a powerful musical alliance.

Mark C. Hanson, President and CEO of the BSO, encapsulates the spirit of the event, stating, “As Maryland’s largest performing arts organization, we are dedicated to creating programs that resonate with and serve our community.” Indeed, GospelFest is more than a musical event; it’s a community initiative aimed at celebrating diversity and uniting people through the universal language of music. We invite you to be a part of this celebration of unity and diversity.

This year’s GospelFest will include an eclectic mix of musical pieces, ranging from traditional spirituals like “Ride on King Jesus” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” to contemporary hits by Donald Lawrence such as “The Blessing of Abraham” and “Encourage Yourself.” Including pieces arranged by Dr. Panion himself, like “Order My Steps in the Lord” and “Glory” from the movie Selma, promises a rich auditory experience that blends classical orchestral elements with soul-stirring Gospel rhythms.

Adding to the allure of the evening, doors will open early for some pre-concert festivities. The BSO has partnered with the Black Arts District to offer a vibrant mix of fun and entertainment, along with delicious food and beverages provided by local favorites such as Emmanuella’s and Raspberry Moments. This prelude to the main event ensures that the community engagement starts well before the first note is played, setting the tone for an evening of unity and celebration.

As GospelFest prepares to return, it stands as a testament to the BSO’s commitment to presenting high-quality music and fostering an inclusive community space where every note played is a step towards bridging cultural divides. If you’re in Baltimore and looking for an evening that promises not just music but an experience, mark your calendars for an unforgettable night of gospel at the Meyerhoff. Don’t miss out on what will surely be one of the highlights of Baltimore’s cultural calendar this year.
