After a brief intermission, the much-anticipated Gospel Heritage Worship & Arts Summit is making a grand return to Durham, NC, hosted at The River Church from May 16th to 18th. For those of us who have missed the deep, soul-stirring melodies and the profound teachings that this summit is known for, this news is like a melody to our ears.
Founded by the esteemed Dr. Teresa Hairston-Jackson, the Gospel Heritage Foundation has been a pillar in the gospel music community since 1994, bridging the gap between faith and practical life skills through its international and regional worship summits. This year, under the leadership of Gospel Heritage President and seven-time Stellar Award-winning gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell, the summit is poised to offer an unparalleled experience for attendees.
This three-day gospel music industry boot camp is not just any event; it’s a haven for aspiring gospel singers and musicians to learn from leading professionals in the industry. It promises an intense, educational, and spiritually enriching journey that is rare elsewhere.
This year, the summit will honor legends and leaders who have left indelible marks on the gospel music scene. Pastor Shirley Caesar, Dr. Judith McAllister, and Men of Standard are this year’s special honorees, each bringing their own legacy. Pastor Shirley Caesar, known as “The First Lady of Gospel Music,” boasts a career filled with 11 Grammy Awards, 14 Stellar Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dr. Judith McAllister, a renowned praise and worship leader, has served as the President of the International Music Department of the Church of God in Christ, enriching many with her spiritual leadership and musical talent. Men of Standard, celebrated for their Stellar Award-winning contributions, have been a significant male group in the gospel industry.
The summit will also feature special guest speakers Bishop William Murphy, Dr. Valerie Moore, and Bishop Ronald L. Godbee, along with other notable guests such as Gospel Heritage Vice President Dr. John Paul McGee, Anthony Brown, Tonya Baker, Meachum Clarke, Pastor Ruth Ann Wynter, and Todd Galberth. Their participation signifies the summit’s commitment to delivering impactful insights and empowering the next generation of worship leaders.
