ASCAP Honors Brandon Lake Among Other Winners Of The ASCAP Christian Music Awards

The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the sole US PRO operating on a not-for-profit basis, gathered tonight in Nashville to celebrate the songwriters and publishers behind Christian music’s most-performed songs of the past year. At an exclusive event, ASCAP honored the winners of the ASCAP Christian Music Awards, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the industry.

Among the top honors awarded were:

  • Christian Music Songwriter of the Year: Brandon Lake
  • ASCAP Golden Note Award: Matthew West
  • Christian Music Song of the Year: “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” by David Spencer, David Spencer Songs, Essential Music Publishing LLC
  • Christian Music Publisher of the Year: Capitol CMG Publishing

Brandon Lake, a Grammy Award-winning artist known for his collaboration with Maverick City Music, earned his first ASCAP Songwriter of the Year accolade. Lake received recognition for five most-performed songs, including hits like “Ain’t Nobody,” “Gratitude,” and “This Is Our God.” His impressive 11 Dove Awards nominations, including Artist of the Year, further solidify his status in the industry.

The ASCAP Golden Note Award, an honor reserved for artists achieving extraordinary career milestones, was presented to Matthew West. With an impressive track record of 30 #1 songs as an artist and/or songwriter, West has made his mark in the industry. Renowned figures like Amy Grant, Anne Wilson, Michael W. Smith, and Tim Tebow congratulated West via recorded messages.

Songwriter and producer David Spencer, co-writer of the Song of the Year “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” celebrated his achievement alongside Jamie Rodgers, Vice President of Essential Music Publishing. The hit song, performed by Katy Nichole, dominated charts and earned critical acclaim.

Capitol CMG Publishing was recognized as the ASCAP Christian Music Publisher of the Year for the 21st consecutive year. With 10 award-winning titles, including tracks by Colton Dixon, Mac Powell, and Elevation Worship feat. Jonsal Barrientes, Capitol CMG Publishing continues to set industry standards. The award was accepted by Capitol CMG Executive Vice President Casey McGinty, VP Administration and Operations Kent Draughon, and SVP A&R Karrie Dawley on behalf of their team.

The event, hosted by ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams, Vice President of Nashville Membership Mike Sistad, and Nashville Assistant Vice President, Strategic Services, Kele Currier, brought together prominent songwriters, Christian music stars, and industry leaders. Notable attendees included Rachael Lampa, Colby Wedgeworth, and Ben Glover.
